Spring Has Sprung!

It has been a long winter. More snow than I cared for, too cold, and not enough daylight. I love the extra hours of light we get in the spring and summer. I love the way each day in the spring, you see more colors; greens,  pinks, purple, white, and yellow! It is the time when we look forward to working in our gardens and our yards; planting, weeding, and mulching.

I like to talk about different ways to beautify our yards and outdoor spaces, like decks and patios, making them more comfortable and more beautiful so they bring us peace and happiness! Because home truly is where the heart is. They are our safe havens. Anything we do to make them more enjoyable is an investment in our health, happiness, and our futures! For example, a great way to enjoy our back yard or patio is to add a hammock stand with a beautiful hammock. Make sure you love the way the hammock looks because every time you see it, it will bring you a moment of happiness!

They’re Back!

Last fall I was riding my bike on a trail in the woods one morning. I realized it was so quiet. The songbirds had all flown south. It felt lonesome without them . I had been listening to them all summer while riding. Over the winter, not being outdoors as much, I had forgotten about them.

Well, I heard a beautiful sound this morning outside my window! It was the singing of songbirds, chirping and chattering! I am going to spend some time this afternoon in my quilted hammock and let them sing to me! I hope they are as happy to be home as I am to have them back!

Early Spring Swing In A Hammock

I enjoy the early signs of spring from my Pawleys Island rope hammock in my back yard. However, it is still quite chilly outside. Brrr! This is the best time to use hammock pads, not just for an extra cushion, but for the extra warmth they provide in chilly weather.

The hammock pad works well with the rope hammock, as some people don’t like an open weave to lie against but may enjoy the traditional look of the rope. There is a new sight each day in the spring! Bulbs peeking out, birds returning, leaves sprouting out, and trees blooming with brilliant colors. There is so much beauty if we just take a moment to look!

My First Sign Of Spring

I am so excited! Even though the bulbs peeped out of the ground last week, my first official sign of spring is always when I see the first robin! Well, today I feel like I hit the jackpot! I saw four robins out in the yard, pecking in some leaves, looking for worms.

I didn’t realize how much I had missed them and all the birds that fly around my house and live in our trees. I love the way they sing in the summer! I will be putting my Mexican hammock out under my trees in the next week so I can enjoy the birds busy at work! If it is too chilly, I will bring a blanket!

Happy St Patty’s Day! Saint Patrick’s Day dates back to the 17th century in Ireland, when it was made an annual feast day to commemorate Saint Patrick. The day is generally characterized by the attendance of church services, wearing green attire, and the lifting of Lenten restrictions, such as eating and drinking alcohol, which is often prohibited during the rest of the season.

Some people like to celebrate by wearing green and drinking green beer! I like the idea of relaxing in a green Mayan hammock and reading!

Children who have difficulty with focusing on tasks such as  math or reading may find it easier to concentrate while sitting in a hammock swing as their bodies sway with the motion. It seems unbelievable until you learn that hammock swing therapy is actually a treatment in Autism. But some of our children just have a problem maintaining their attention, and this can be very beneficial.

It can be a very easy and inexpensive solution to homework battles. A hammock swing can be hung up or taken down in seconds. Just hang on a hook in a ceiling beam or doorway. It can be used indoors or outside. It is definitely worth a try because all in the household can enjoy!

This past winter I have enjoyed my special spot in my hanging hammock chair in the corner of my great room. I have made it a special little treat on my days off. After the kids get on the bus and my husband leaves for work, I think of all the things I need to get done that day.

But first, I feel I deserve a nice start to my day. I make a small pot of tea and get a plate of toast and some fruit, and I just sit and sip. Sometimes I just think or pray and sometimes  I might read. But whatever I do, I enjoy my time in my special, favorite spot and I feel it makes my whole day nicer!

One Week Until Spring!

In one week, the spring solstice begins! I am already loving the extra daylight we gained this past weekend! I see that my crocuses and tulips are peeking up through the ground! The beauty of spring and new life has already begun.

I love the way each day in spring you seem to see a new bud, bloom, or leaf and everything just keeps getting greener! The trees amaze me because, one day there is a bunch of leaves together that are 1/4 inch long, and the next day, it seems, they are 4 inches! These are the maple trees I will hang my beloved hammock from!

I took my hammock chair stand in the house this past fall. I had been enjoying it all summer and early fall and I couldn’t bear to part with it for all of those cold months. I have enjoyed so many of reading, talking on the phone, or just relaxing with the rest of my family while swinging in my hammock chair. I highly recommend it to everyone!

Now that spring arrives next week, and hopefully warmer weather with it, I realize that I need a new hammock chair and hammock chair stand for the patio! I now can’t bear to part with it in my great room! I think I will keep my green chair in the house because it looks so good in there. I will get a new one to enjoy this spring and summer!

Early Spring Camping Trip

I am anxiously awaiting spring this year. I look forward to an early spring camping trip. I like to camp at many places, but one of my favorite places is in the mountains. I pack up my hiking gear and my camping hammock in my backpack, and I’m ready!

Then it is just me and nature! These are the trips I take alone, occasionally. Other times, my family will join me. Every now and then, though, I just need some time alone to appreciate the beauty of nature and hear the sounds of the woods. I stretch out my portable hammock between two trees and just relax after a strenuous hike. This brings me a peace like no other. I come back a new man!
