Hammock Swing For Autistic Therapy
September 26, 2010 3:12 pm
The hammock swing is a perfect chair for an autistic child. They enjoy sitting in these because they wrap around them and make them feel safe and secure as they rock back and forth. The improvement can be dramatic, even after fifteen minutes, and can last all day.
They feel out of balance due to a dysfunctional vestibular system. The swinging motion restores equilibrium to this system and makes them feel more “in balance” The motion of swinging also soothes, relaxes, and improves concentration. Children who have difficulty with certain tasks, such as reading or math, may benefit from sitting in a hammock swing while doing this.
