Have you been trying to think of something for your sweetheart, this Valentine’s Day, that you haven’t done before? The chocolates and flowers are always nice, but you wish you could really surprise her with the perfect gift! How about a beautiful hammock in a hammock stand? Perfect!

You could choose a pattern you know they will like, then a stand, to hang it in. This way you can move it anywhere you wish. From the backyard, to the patio, to the basement! The quality time you two will spend here is unmeasurable to any amount of money you spend! Oh, just make sure you get a “hammock built for two.”

As we are exploring many ways to beat the winter blues, as we call the slightly sad we feeling that some of get in the winter, when the days are shorter and it is cold outside, and sometimes cloudy. This is not be confused with a clinical depression, of course, which may require medication. One of my favorite things to do anytime of year is to read. This is an enjoyable way to pass a gloomy day.

I do recommend though, if you are reading to lift your spirits, don’t read a book that makes you cry! Find a book that is uplifting, or even funny. Winter is a great time to catch up on the piles of magazines that lay around unread. I like to put my subscriptions in a binder that holds a whole year of issues. Then I can read them when I find time. I keep them in the corner bookcase by my hammock chair stand so that I can just reach for one and browse. If you don’t feel you have time for a whole book, you may enjoy short stories, such as the Chicken Soup series. There are so many of them now, and the stories in each book are short reads, and very uplifting.

As some of us, myself included is just getting through the winter months here, I am offering some suggestions to help brighten a gloomy day. Isn’t the sun brilliant and beautiful on a cold winter’s day? It seems more clear than any other season. The problem is when we get none of those great rays, and it is cold!

Yesterday, I mentioned bright colors. Today, I am recommending scents, aromatherapy, for another word. This is a whole topic, large enough for a book! But since this is a blog, I will just mention that using scents that are pleasing to us and can lift our spirits. The easiest way is probably a candle, as the flame is a small, warm light, which brings us peace. Another way are the ever popular reed diffusers. I have a beautiful, ocean scent on the bookcase right beside my hammock chair stand, so that when I sit there to read, I get a nice whiff. Then there are electric diffusers for essential oils, some with mist and lights. Just choose what will work best for you, or a combination.

Hammock Stand

I have a small problem. We finished an additional room in our home last year. We weren’t sure about the furniture we wanted and I like to take my time with important decisions. We ended up bringing our large swing stand and hammock stand in last fall to use until we decided on our decor and style of furniture that we wanted.

Well, I have finally decided on a furniture set and it is on its way. The problem is the large arc hammock stand in there has got to go, or the huge arc hammock swing stand does! I am able to give up the latter of these, however, I am quite attached to a hammock in this nice room! I will see if a metal hammock stand will take up less room or I will hang it from the ceiling, because I cannot part with it!

Love The Unlovely

When I was at church this morning, I received a powerful message. It was to be more aware of people that are, who we feel are “unlovely”, the people that cut us off in traffic, are slow waiting on us in line, etc., and to provide them with more understanding and grace. Perhaps they are having issues of their own, worried over finances, have a sick and aging parent, or are a single parent trying to rush home to care for their children.

It was a reminder to me to stop, slow down, and be kinder and more understanding to everyone I meet. I will try to be the better person and not become annoyed with people so quickly. The people that are not my favorites, I will try to extend them more grace. As I sit here in my hammock chair stand and ponder over the message I have received today, I truly realize that we are all connected and the most important thing, at this time of year, but also all year long, is love.

Getting Ready For Winter

All of the leaves are down, it’s almost December, and I am lucky enough to have a nice weather weekend to wrap up some outdoor work. The leaves need raked, the patio furniture needs to be stored in the shed, and the arc hammock stand needs its cover put on.

First, I take the hammock off and put it in a storage bag that I put in the garage. Then I cover the hammock stand and put it up on cement blocks against the shed. It is a bit large to fit in the shed or garage, but the cover protects it from the elements so that we can enjoy it for years to come.

Stuffed Like A Turkey

I had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday! Getting together with my immediate and extended family was wonderful. The food was great, and the smells before dinner were mouth-watering. The Macy’s parade is a tradition that we always enjoy.

Even the cleanup was fun, but messy, as we were all digging in with with cleaning up after the meal, with the dishes, and dividing up all those leftovers! This year, after the meal and cleanup, we all watched a funny movie, Saving Christmas, and had many laughs! Now, I am so happy and peaceful, just hanging out in my hammock chair stand, but I feel like a stuffed turkey!

Happy Halloween!

It’s a spooky good day for a great Halloween! The little ones, and big ones too, love getting dressed up in their costumes and going “trick or treating”, or to a party! We like to carve the scariest and funniest pumpkins into jack-o-lanterns and sit them on the porch with a candle inside.

This year, one of my kids played a joke on me! They put a skeleton in the hammock chair stand on the front porch! It was perfect for Halloween, but I wasn’t expecting it, and it gave me a fright! Oh well, tis the season…and I love to hear the laughter of my boys!

The arc hammock stand is a large, regal piece. It is perfect for a large backyard, adorned with a beautiful hammock.

It can be a focal point in your yard. You could even use this area to plant a small, ornamental tree beside it. You can watch the tree grow over the years, and someday, it will provide you nice, cool shade!

Tailgating

Football season is less than a month away! Tailgating in the parking lot before the big game can be just as much fun as the game itself! There are some elaborate “camps” that people set up, with generators and all kinds of food!

The Green Eggs and Hammocks tailgating trailer hitch stand hooks onto your trailer hitch and holds two hammock chairs. It is just a lot of fun. Seeing people’s reaction to this unique stand is half the fun!
