Camping Chair
It is soon camping season in my “neck of the woods”! My children bought me a new camping chair, the Hammaka hammock chair, for Christmas this year. I have been waiting to use it ever since. I even hung it down in the basement for one of our “pretend camping trips” this winter.
It works perfectly with the trailer hitch stand, a portable hammock chair stand, like the Hammaka tripod, or you can hang it from a tree branch. Camping is great in the spring because the nights still get cool and you can bundle up in your sleeping bag in a closed tent on this chilly nights. It is a great family time and makes everyone appreciate the comforts of home more.
March has finally arrived! I am always excited at this time of year. It is the season of new life. As March progresses and ushers in spring, there are new signs daily. Yesterday, I saw a huge flock of geese, and heard them honking too, flying back from their southern vacation.
Today, I noticed the bulb flowers of spring, crocuses, daffodils, and tulips have peeked through the earth. How amazing this is every year to me! Very soon, I shall be hanging one of my Pawleys Island hammocks from the big old shade trees in the yard. I like to put this out before the leaves pop out. They start so tiny, then overnight, they are huge! Another amazing part of nature.
Today was Fausnaught Day, also known as Fat Tuesday. This day is the last hurrah before the solemnity of Lent. I have never eaten so many donuts before! I started my day by driving to the gym while drinking coffee and eating a big sugar cookie from a local bakery. I am walking into the gym brushing off cookie crumbs! Very admirable! Yeah…
So, at least I exercised hard. Then around noon, as I walked into the grocery store, I realized it was Fat Tuesday! Well, why not? It’s just one day, right? So, I had more than my share of donuts this afternoon. I am so glad I normally eat healthy, because after all this, all I wanted to do was lay in one of my Pawleys Island hammocks and snooze!
Today was a beautiful, sunny, winter day. It started out so frosted and cold that I thought it snowed! Then by noon, it was close to 50 degrees. That is my kind of winter’s day. I really don’t mind winter, it’s just that I like the warmer weather better because I do more outdoor activities then.
Days like today, I start dreaming about spring by the lake! I enjoy fishing, boating, and truthfully, am looking forward to hanging out laying in my new Outback Chair Company Urban Balance Wave! What a unique hammock that is! Just listening to birds and watching the sun glisten off the water are part of my dreams.
I’m so excited for the Superbowl coming up here this evening! We have a small group of close friends coming early for a Superbowl party. This is when I put out all the Algoma Hammocks butterfly chairs and we all pile into the den.
Everyone gets their own chair. We have lots of snacks and my favorite sloppy joes in the crock pot. I love watching the excitement on the kids’ faces, who are just experiencing football. I love the game, but I also love the time spent together, and the great food!
What a rather unique and fun piece this hammock chair is! It has an aluminum frame wrapped in a weather resistant wicker. It is not the average hanging chair you see in any home. This has a modern, upscale look, that works as well indoors as outdoors. Complete with a large, comfy pillow, that is also weather resistant.
What a relaxing way to just stay home and “hang out”. This gives one the feeling of floating in their own little planet. The Outback Chair Company Urban Balance Sphere will be the envy of all your guests. What a great conversation piece!
My last piece of advice for brightening a winter’s day, especially if it is a snowy, rainy, cloudy, or a cold day, involves one of my favorite things about winter! A fireplace! I love the smell of wood burning, and the crackling of a fire! So, now you are thinking, well, you don’t have one. Then what?
Did you know that there are whole units that you can purchase, containing a standing unit with a gas log insert, that is not vented? Just hook up to your gas source, if you heat with natural gas. If not, you can purchase a tank from the gas company. The other fireplace that is new, and becoming very popular, is an electric fireplace. It has a nice, warm look, and produces a small amount of heat. It would certainly suffice for a fireplace, if that is the best option for you. One of my favorite winter, cozy days involves swinging in my Bliss Hammocks hammock chair, while sitting in front of the fireplace, reading, snoozing, or just watching the fire. It is so relaxing, yet uplifting.
I always have a handful of New Year’s resolutions each year. New habits I would like to start and some old habits I would like to break. I always feel the new year is a fresh start, a clean slate. One of my resolutions is to read more. I truly enjoy reading, but I find myself getting busy with other things and not making time for me to do what I enjoy.
So, I am going to make a conscious effort every day to take time for myself. I am going to lounge in my hammock, because I am happy to be lucky enough to have room for one in my home. I enjoy my Hatteras Hammocks hammock so much, especially when the wind is blowing outside, and it may be snowing, as it is right now. I am going to snuggle up with a pillow and a blanket and read before I go to bed, rested and peaceful, because I made time for myself.
The furniture I ordered for my great room was supposed to arrive in mid January, but it came two days before Christmas! A nice surprise! This was the furniture, though, that I thought, was going to kick out my hammock in the stand, in that room.
It is one of the Pawleys Island hammocks I have had for years, an old friend! I had gotten used to it while deciding on furniture, which took a long time. The good news is that, for now, it is staying! There is still enough room. I was able to enjoy laying in the hammock and looking at the Christmas tree last night. It was a wonderful ending to a wonderful day spent with family.
Since I am, after all, the Healthy Hammock Lady, I thought it would be an appropriate time to talk about health over the holidays. Maintaining our current good health, or striving for better health. Did you know that the single worst thing for your health is stress? We all know what that is, and I feel it is multiplied at this time of year, because we put so many expectations on ourselves!
So, how we can help this? First of all, stop, and remember the reason that you celebrate the holidays. Stop putting all of these unrealistic expectations on yourself! Does it really matter if you don’t bake cookies for the whole neighborhood? You may be juggling a family, job, etc. Couldn’t you surprise them with a plate of cookies in January, when they aren’t being bombarded with everyone else’s baked gifts? They may appreciate it more then. This will alleviate some items on your “to do” list! First, we need to find our “quiet place” daily and spend a few minutes there. For me, this is an Algoma Hammocks hammock chair in the corner of my sun room. But find your spot and go there, then truly evaluate what is really a priority to you so that you can cut out some of this stress!
