Accessorize That Hammock!
Women like to accessorize themselves with jewelry, scarves, etc. You may not realize that the greatest part of having a hammock is adding fun hammock accessories! One of my favorites are the pillows. I like to add a few so that I can prop up when I want to read or write.
There are magazine holders, misters to spray you when it’s hot, and even a hammock rocker! You can put the stake in the ground near your hammock, then pull on rope to rock yourself to sleep!
I have discovered that having many hammock pillows on my hammock is the greatest way to relax. I like to pile them up, then put one right under my head, for support. This makes it very comfortable for reading, also.
I think it is fun to get a pretty hammock pillow to coordinate with your hammock because it adds a personal touch to your favorite spot. I have one that makes me thing of lying on a hammock at the beach! It would be an interesting idea to make it seasonal for a hammock in the house, a pillow for each season, and inside, these can be regular couch pillows. You could change them around for something different, as it is easier than moving furniture!
Exercise is so very important for our well being, physically, mentally, and emotionally. It is so important to do some form of exercise at least three times a week. Maybe a gym membership would benefit you. There are machines for weight training and cardio work, like treadmills, bikes, and elliptical machines. It is a great way to meet new friends too.
The best part of exercise, for me, is how I feel afterwards, when the endorphins, those “feel-good” chemicals, are released to make us feel wonderful.I t can feel a bit intimidating to some. But, just remember, everyone is there for a common goal, to look and feel better, and they all were new at some time. When I take a class that has floor work, I take one of my hammock pads and fold it three times for a great mat!
You may have a great hammock, or maybe even two, but do you have some great hammock accessories to enjoy while in it? These make life a little easier. For instance, the hammock mister keeps you cool while it’s hot out. The hammock caddy holds your loose items, like iPod, book, glasses, etc. The hammock tree straps make your hammock portable if you travel or camp.
They make great gifts for our loved ones too. People will buy themselves a hammock, then overlook the nice, little “extras”. Keep these items in mind as write out your list to Santa! That is, if you have been nice this year, not naughty!
We were blessed enough to have some extended family travel to spend Thanksgiving with us this year! We had such a nice visit on Thanksgiving Day and a wonderful meal. We are enjoying the leftovers today while catching up even more on conversation. We didn’t venture out yesterday with the traffic from Black Friday. It was fun to just relax with our family and stay around the house.
We stayed up late watching funny movies and slept in late today. I discovered a new use for the Algoma Hammocks rope hammock pads that we usually store all winter. I had a great idea to put them on the blow up mattress that some of the kids slept on. It made the mattress more cozy and kept them from feeling hot, as those mattresses can sometimes do. The kids slept like logs and we thought they were never waking up!
I love Thanksgiving! It’s a wonderful time spent with family, watching the parade, talking and laughing, and just enjoying each others company. Did I forget to mention the food?! Oh, my, the “thanksgiving feast” is my favorite of the year!
After everyone is gone, in the evening, I am going to snuggle up with a blanket and a big, cushy hammock pillow, in my family room, beside the fireplace. I will read and then take a nap, feeling still full as a stuffed turkey!
Did you know that it is the hammock pillow that makes your relaxation time in a hammock so wonderful? I have a standard hammock pillow that is attached to my spreader bar. But I have found that I like to add other pillows to make it really comfy.
It can make a great place to take an afternoon nap! I like to pick smaller pillows that coordinate with the colors in the hammock. Then I can prop myself up if I want to read. I can throw my legs over one. It’s like being on your own cloud, softly swaying in the breeze.

This is the time of year that I get out the hammock pads for my rope hammocks. In the hot weather, I don’t use them as much. But when it starts to turn cooler, especially in the evenings, I enjoy laying on the comfortable hammock pad and relaxing into the evening.
It is getting dark so much earlier now! I really don’t like when the nights get shorter and shorter. But, this is what happens every year, I remind myself. I will miss the daylight hours as it turns into fall, then, winter… But for now, I will just enjoy this thick cushion under me, keeping me warm and cozy.
